Paid search is exactly what it sounds like. You pay to have your ad show up In the prime real estate of the search engine results like on Google and Bing without having to go through arduous, mind-bending optimization of your site. It’s very much like traditional advertising in that regard. You pay and your ad shows up. Well, sort of.
A user types in a phrase that they’re looking to find out more about. Up pops a bunch of text and photos and videos and what not that are “related” to the person’s search. Some of it is ads and some of it is not.
Here’s a simple map to get you started. Imagine you just searched for “35mm camera” and you now see this:
Short and sweet, red is expensive premium ads, green is part of Google Shopping and blue is Google text ads. The results in white are non-paid and are considered the authoritative pages on the web on their particular subject, in this case, 35mm camera dslr.
